Diet and Animal Fats and Breast Cancer Risk
We know that saturated animal fats (found in beef, lamb, eggs and dairy products) have a role in breast cancer development. These animal fats increase breast cancer risk and so it is important to mitigate that risk and stay healthy. The burnt edges of meat which can occur when barbecuing are more cancer-inducing and should be avoided. Marinating meat and adding fresh herbs can reduce this risk as does stewing meat.
However some foods which contain saturated fats also provide minerals and protein which are required to remain healthy. For example, dairy products are essential for everyone to maintain bone and dental health. They are also important in women if they plan to have children in the future providing calcium for themselves as well as their babies’ teeth and skeleton. Likewise, eggs which also contain animal fats are iron-rich and are a good source of dietary protein.
So it is important to select these foods carefully and eat them in moderation.
