Alcohol and Breast Cancer Risk

Alcohol intake has been shown to be a significant risk factor for women who drink regularly. Even one drink every day can increase your risk of developing breast cancer and the more you drink, the higher the risk. One unit of alcohol (a glass of wine or half a pint of beer) daily can increase your risk by 7%.  Data has shown that women are drinking more and at an earlier age than they used to. Many teenagers’ drink alcohol and binge drink and this can become a pattern in their lives as they move into adulthood. This can increase their individual risk of getting breast cancer in the future.10% of our Year 12-13 cohort were binge drinking at Study.
